Every puppy owner should read this book BEFORE they bring the puppy home, and then keep it handy to reference sections as needed. Celebrity dog trainers show off how to do things on TV (that's nice), but this book teaches YOU how to be your dog's teacher, leader and friend so you won't ever need professional intervention for crazy behavior. There's a helpful DVD, and the book has pictures and is easy to read. Chapter 8 "Common Problems, Easy Solutions" covers so much. I've always had good, respectful, properly socialized dogs, but now I'll have a great dog. It may be common sense, but "you raise what you praise" is one of the authors' easy mantras to remember as you correct your puppy's behavior. Easy read, well worth the time.
