The first two books of this trilogy were very good-full of history and great stories about five families that witnessed that history. From WWI through WWII the first two books were excellent. But then here comes Edge of Eternity. I actually question if Ken Follett wrote all of it. There are over 1,000 pages so there's a lot he could have had ghost written. The third book's characters are for the most part, grandchildren of the first two book's characters. Now instead of witnessing history, they are making it. Working for President Kennedy ( and how), AG Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, as well as USSR leaders-it got a little unbelievable. When they weren't making history, they were sleeping with one another. LOTS of unplanned pregnancies here! The maps on the end papers of the first two were informative maps of a changing Europe at the time. This time the author(s) chose to show where the Freedom Rides of 1961 were-never mind about the changing boundaries of Germany. It is clear that Mr. Follett is not a fan of President Reagan-but managed to put a final short chapter (epilogue, really) about President Obama.
To be honest, it was a thousand page disappointment-I finished it so I could honestly write this review. I've read many other Follett books, and this was by far the worst one ever.
