This book was a DNF for me. After the prologue, which isn't particularly intriguing, the author jumps back in time spends the next 51 pages on very boring, tedious backstory. Then we come back to "eighteen months later" and ... still nothing happens. Yes, there's a death, but it seems to be just a plodding narrative without any kind of urgency or mystery. It feels like MORE backstory. There was never a point of, "Okay, here we go with the actual conflict." Another twenty pages, I still wasn't engaged and decided to move on.

So, if you can stand wading through a whole lot of nothing, maybe there's something truly brilliant at the end, but I didn't really care enough to find out.
