Novalee is seven months pregnant and is traveling from Tennessee to California with her boyfriend Willy Jack. Novalee has to stop for a bathroom and to buy some shoes. While shopping Willy Jack leaves her behind at Walmart. Novalee is befriended by a few people who take her in after she has lived and given birth in Walmart.
