"The Two-Income Trap" is worth the read for invigorating one's thought, particularly with regards to the current state of our economic situation - and this book was written 8 years ago (2003)! While the authors postulate many plausible conclusions on aspects of the evolution of our society, as well as predictions (some of which have come true) many are based more on subjective interpretation than objective analysis.

Awareness is the first step toward understanding. This book instigates one to think about everyday family decisions and situations in a new financial light. I suspect that this book isn't as eye opening in today's times as when it was written, solely on the fact that many people have had their understanding heightened during recent economic circumstances. While not a great 'solutions' book as part of the title indicates, creation of awareness of what may be subconscious parts of financial decision making, make the book a worthy read. Some topics covered - mom in the workplace; impact of public education; single vs dual income families.
