This is a memoir by a daughter of two Holocaust survivors about her childhood and how it shaped her. I expected the entire book to be in an ironic key, as the first chapter is, but it was actually pretty straightforward and down to earth. Eisenstein does include a transcript of her mother's experiences in Auschwitz, and tells her family's stories of survival, but much of the book is about her growing up in a community of Polish Jews in Toronto, speaking Yiddish. I found this worth reading.
