This was an engrossing and very readable work about food adulteration from the 1840s to the present. We all likely think that the Chinese tainted dog food and baby formula we hear about on the news is new, but our Victorian ancestors had much worse to deal with -- lead in candy, and other poisons in everything from milk to meat to cheese. There are some sections that may make a reader queasy, similar to Sinclair's "The Jungle", but this is an overall well-researched and interesting read. Substantial footnotes and references are included. Highly recommended.
