Yes, the Prologue is hard to read (and a bit boring, honestly) -- I almost gave up on the book there too. But that's only the first 6 pages of the book, set in Jamaica in order to give reference and background to the main character.

The rest of the book follows her life in Chicago. As a single mother, living alone after the death of her daughter, her anger and depression manifest as a gambling problem.

While most of us can only imagine such a painful time, this book takes you to that low point, but then back up again to the road of recovery.

Skip the Prologue if it doesn't move you. It doesn't provide much to the good read that follows.
