Book Review of Amazing Grapes

Amazing Grapes

4 stars for artwork; 2 stars on plot--starts off with a very depressing premise of a family breaking up and the children and mother moving into "other dimensions" in a very dream-state, silly, stream of consciousness story. Similar to most children's fantasies with a journey of self discovery and miscellaneous, unfamiliar, characters met along the way. There is a happy ending and the conceit of the song (Amazing Grapes, not Amazing Grace) is cute, but not really fleshed out enough to carry the plot. If you're familiar with Feiffer's work it's a very quick read, but if not, it may just appear weird.
