Jess one of three children gets to go alone for 4 months with her parents to Belize. They are archeologists going on an archaeological dig. IN Belize the predominant Language is English but there are also Many other nationalities whom speak many other languages. There is some technology like cell phones but not much else. Jess finds out that it is hot but there is no air conditioning, except circulating the natural outside air. She gets to know another girl her age in Belize named Sarita Bols. Sarita's parents are educated but choose to cook over a fire, wash clothes by hand, and live in wood huts with thatched roofs. Jess finds that she likes the no technology life style of the Bols. She and Sarita find some undiscovered old caves with old artifacts and help save them. This is a great book for any age.I learned a lot about Belize.
