This book was a big disappointment for me. Carol the mother of Peter has been a widow for 13 years. She married right out of high school because of an unexpected pregnancy and the boy she thought she loved turned out to be a verbally and physically abusive husband who quickly became an alcoholic. When he died in a car crash, Carol found out he was with another woman.

The story opens with Carols son, Peter, being 15 and carol is a nurse. Peters best friend Jim and his father Alex live alone because Alexs wife died of cancer two years earlier.
The Chance meeting of Carol and Alex coupled with the woman he is with is just too unbelievable. Alexs detailed story of his love for his wife doesnt come out right when he falls so completely in love so quickly with Carol. Carol on the other hand claims very strong feelings for Alex and seems to fall in love with him, but her personal issues after 13 long years of maturity and being alone doesnt sit right in the store. Alex is a very stable father and business owner, and the story leads us down a very long path of Carol being so afraid of the same circumstances she had in her first marriage with absolutely no evidence of why she thinks Alex would be this way. Two intelligent people that dont talk things out, but are suppose to be in love. I love Debbie Macomber books, but this one was frustrating, and tiring.
