In the SHunning Katie Lapp's idenity was shattered the day she found out she was adopted. Painfully torn from her close-knit Amish community in the frightening ordeal called the shunning, Katie-now Katherine Mayfield-sets out to find the ailing birth mother she has never known in The Confessions. Her journey takes her away from Hickory Hollow to the peaceful home of her aunt and uncle, where electric lights and telephones set Katherine's mind whirling with "fancy things." After doing some investigating, she discovers where her real mother, Laura Mayfield-Bennet lives. She thentravels on to the impressive Bennet estate in the Finger Lakesregion of New York. But Laura's greedy and conniving husband, Dylan Bennett, is intent on denying Katherine any claim on Laura-or her considerable fortune. Meanwhile, Katherine's first love, Daniel Fisher, is returning to Hickory Hollow to make things right with his family-and with Katie. When he finds out she was forced to leave the Amish community, he vows to find her, but are their worlds already too far apart? Shunned from her home and alone in a world of strangers, Katherine longs only for the gentle loving embrace of the woman who gave her up. Can she find a way to see her-before it's too late?
