I love the writing of Laura Lippman and love the Tess Monaghan series, especially. I have to agree with some of the other reviews of this novel, this is just not the best of the series.
One of the things I like about the Tess Monaghan series is the unexpected and fast paced events that Tess encounters. Unfortunately, Tess encounters only one thing that is unexpected and frankly, the lack of interaction between Crow, Whitney & Tyner make for a book that is really quite boring.
The plot line is flat, other than an unexplained murder, there is not a whole lot going on with the plot. There was none of the typical twists and turns that the plot usually has and I had the ending of the novel guessed by 1/4 of the way through the read. Tess doesn't do much of anything and the only quality description is the workings and goings on of the TV Production set, something I wasn't that interested in at all.
If you're a first time reader of Laura Lippman, I would go with some of her earlier works in the Tess Monaghan series. If you're a fan and follower, be aware that you'll walk away from this novel disappointed and feeling like you were robbed out of a book that could have been really, really good.
