This is a true account of the leper colony at Molokai. It is more or less chronological, but tells the history mainly through the stories of various individuals including Father Damian. In the recounting of the personal sagas of the victims, the sufferings of the lepers are made clear from the medical symptoms to the social stigmatization. The book also provides interesting accounts of the workings of the Hawaiian government and the politics involved. All in all, I would rate this book - good to very good.
