This historical fiction novel is based on the persecution of the Cathars in 1328. It begins with an individual who loses his brother. The brother was the star of the family while the younger boy was ill much of the time and a reader. When the brother is killed in war, the family ignores the younger brother and immerses themselves in grief. Nor do they explain the circumstances of the elder boy's death. As an adult, he searches for relief from his depression, always thinking about his brother. When he meets Fabrizza after his car crashes on a mountain road life seems to be worth living again. Yes, he falls in love but the village where he stays doesn't know of her. Once again he is seeking someone. The ending is surpising and fascinating. I really enjoyed this read and recommend it to any of you who are linterested in historical fiction. It's very good.
