Stereotypical characters, plot, and setting, if that's all possible at once. Ifyou want your book to feel like a TV series, then this one works that way. It's the detective on the edge of skid row who also happens to be a wizard. He ends up solving the mystery and surviving evil. I only read the whole way thru to find the last couple strands of the story which was otherwise painfully apparent to me. Don't get me wrong, I sometimes like a book to deliver exactly what I predict. That's why someone else may enjoy this.
Someone who doesn't mind if everyone in the entire book swears a blue streak or engages in orgies. Even the most typical man on the street in this book was involved in the most bizarre behavior. Or, aware of it but turning a blind eye. Oh well.
