Having first read this more than sixty years ago, I wanted to reread this book because it predates Disney's adaptation. There's nothing wrong with Disney's version, but I was surprised that there was no Jiminy Cricket, just a cricket that got squashed by Pinocchio. Although this book is meant for 8 to 12-year-olds, anyone will enjoy this tale.

Pinocchio is a misbehaving little puppet who has lots of human attributes. There are moral lessons throughout the story. A couple of those lessons are the importance of listening to parents and the importance of school.

The beauty of this story is that Pinocchio lives long enough to understand the errors he's made and change. Therefore, this is a very uplifting tale about a puppet exhibiting poor behaviors and learning to think about others.
