When Dr. Lito Manibusan, a Filipino professor of history at Cal State is murdered, the police chalk it up to the random urban violence that is no stranger to San Francisco. But four months later, a woman claiming to be the professor's widow demands his personal effects--which have already been dispersed. No one in the history department believes her, but private investigator Jeri Howard is hired by her father, a former colleague of the dead man's to find his next of kin and learn the truth.

Jeri is no stranger to hard work. Sometimes the breaks come and sometimes they don't. Unfortunately, this time, the truth about old feuds and politics has died with the murdered man--until a mysterious audiocassette reappears and quickly vanishes. Then Jeri finds herself on the same path that the professor had been on, searching for information shrouded in secrecy and locked in the past. It's the trail of treachery that cost him his life...
