OK, I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. The heroine is silly and whiny. The hero is a cardboard caricature. Their relationship is downright scary (and not in a goth way; we're talking 1950s stereotypes here, with a ridiculously passive girl willing to accept petty controlling behavior from a guy). Besides, there's just nothing interesting going on! If the subject itself is the draw, you're far better off picking up Robin McKinley's Sunshine or any number of other, MUCH better books. Or go get reacquainted with Buffy for pete's sake. Never thought I'd hold that up as a beacon of social enlightenment, but now I that see how badly wrong this genre can go - well, I realize she was truly protecting civilization as we know it...
