I am pleasantly surprised at the Sookie Stackhouse books, so much so that I ordered HBO just so I could watch True Blood.

Bon Temps houses a telepathic bartender. There is no shortage of drama in this out-of-the-way Louisiana town since Vampires have become legalized residents. These newly recognized citizens are trying to mainstream themselves by surviving off of synthetic Japanese made blood.

When there are a series of murders, vampires become the main suspects. Sookie is enlisted to use her "disability" to find the murderer before they find her.

Harris is an amazing storyteller. She will leave you wanting for more (and her other books won't disappoint).
