Even though this book has a theme I like: two childhood sweethearts that become lovers as adults, this was not a good read for me. It started out very nicely, but I never quite believed that the hero loved, and not just lusted, after this heroine (I did believe SHE loved HIM). I put this down very easily and had to convince myself to pick it up again; never a good sign. The middle part of the book became chock-full of a LOT of romance-novel contrivances: heroine dresses as a boy; there's jealous woman in the hero's life; heroine misunderstands about hero's alleged mistress. I would probably read another Laurie Grant book, though, because the beginning chapters of Lord Liar are very good.
