Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead husband Bones are now working in tandem to rid the world of undesirable vampires. Bones is now a Master Vampire on his own, without allegiance to another, and responsible for all in his line. He accepts an offer from his grandsire Mencheres to a permanent alliance, which gives him some of his power. But an old and powerful vampire is trying to kill both Bones and Cat, and harnessing black magic forbidden to vampires to do it, and even their combined might may not be enough to stop her.
Frost steps up the action in this third volume of the series, and changes the character dynamics when Dave is turned into a ghoul and Tate is turned into a vampire. While the action was entertaining, I found myself getting a little bored and impatient with the endless iterations of undying love between our heroes, and the gratuitous sex scenes which admittedly were short enough to be tolerable. Cat's stubbornness and jealousy at times also became a little trying, but it's obviously an attempt to keep the heroine from becoming too perfect, especially as her fighting prowess stretches credulity more and more. But the book moves along at a smart pace, and is easy to go through like candy.
