A collection of three short stories in which teenagers must cope with the aftermath of a death. In the first, the nephew and niece of a woman who has died of AIDS work outside the law in order to fulfill their aunt's desire to be cremated; in the second, two very different cousins are drawn together by a deathbed promise; and in the third, three strangers help a girl come to terms with the death of her father.
Three novellas explore the effects of death on young lives.

Industry reviews
"The voices here are distinct, the dialogue natural-sounding, and the storytelling, especially the sports action (Brooks can make even a round of golf suspenseful), superb. But what will stay longest with readers is the inner strength with which his characters face, and prove equal to, some of life's hardest tests. Great reading from a great writer."
