This book is very different than the rest of her series. Maisie is in a very dark place in her life and the book reflects. Just because it is dark and depressing does not mean it was not good. I missed our usual characters but I think this is a transition novel. It will take us into WWII and the next phase of Maisie's life. It will be interesting to see where the next book takes us.
