"Original Love" tells of an enduring and deeply abiding first love. It also tells of how deception and hatred of parents impact the decisions they make concerning the lives of their children. Peter, a white, down-on-his-luck author has written and dedicated two books to "E", a young black girl named Ebony whom he loved in his youth. The two books were written under Peter's pseudonym, so critics and readers believe that he is an African American female author. Twenty years later Peter, now divorced, realizes he has never stopped loving Ebony and he decides to search for her. Using the Internet, Peter sends out a query to everyone named Ebony who lives in his old hometown. Someone named Destiny responds and says that she has information about Ebony. Destiny and Peter meet for dinner so she can tell him where Ebony is. "Original Love" is definitely an original book in that: a)Peter narrates the book in first person; b) the background of Peter's and Ebony's love story is told through Peter's writing of his third book; and c)in the middle of his narration of his present life and writing the third book dedicated to "E", Peter is also writing a book under his own name. Ultimately, this is a good read; however, it took nearly 100 pages for me to get into the flow of these three overlapping stories.
