I worked in the NICU at All Children's Hospital for 22 years. I watched it grow from just a few beds to one of the largest and best hospitals in the southeast. This book really struck a chord in me. I loved reading about what the NICU is really all about. The nurses are dedicated, loving and hard working people whose lives revolve around trying to save each precious baby that comes into the unit. This book is entirely real. These babies actually lived; some only a short time but most got well and went home. I highly recommend reading this non fiction work to see how dedicated the nurses, doctors, therapists and ancillary workers are to keeping these tiny patients alive and help them thrive. You will be awed, feel joy, feel the pain of the parents, the frustration of the medical personnel when a baby fails to survive in spite of their greatest efforts. You will be glad you read it.
