This is a book of philosophy, not my cup of tea, but it has been well received. Published by Granta in 2002, my copy is the 7th printing of their 2003 pb and there is a 2007 pb that was published in the US, as well as an E-Book.
From the Vices of Morality. "We prefer to found our lives--in public, at least--on the pretence that 'morality' wins out in the end. Yet we do not really believe it. At bottom, we know that nothing can make us proof against fate and chance. In this, we are closer to the archaic, pre-Socratic Greeks than we are to cf classical Greek philosophy (107)."
Index. Further Reading is done by chapters and lists a few books in each case, often including a comment.
