This is a sexy fantasy novel who's main characters are an Inspector, Adrian, and a mixed breed artist, Roxanne. The setting is another world called The Aedlyne Empire Under Queen Victoria. Yamas are the elite of this world. They are a beautiful race and the only beings allowed to wear their hair down to their waist and below. Humans call Yamas "demons" which they're not. Humans are considered a lower class breed. One of the worst slums is full of lesser demons and humans. Into this filthy, dangerous mess, Inspector Adrian hunts for missing boys. After he's attacked by ruffians, left seriously injured, he is taken in by Roxanne who lives on the border of the slums. Under her ministrations, Adrian heals, they start an affair and a couple of mysteries are solved along the way. I recommend this book as it offers a fascinating view of another world whose morals and political machinations closely mirror our own world. I loved the 2 main characters and the 2 children Roxanne is fostering.
