From the jacket: In 1536 John Calvin visited the court of Renee of France, Duchess of Ferrara and presented her with the first copy of his Christian Institutes. Thus bagan a relationship of written correspondence, spiritual advice and personal visits between them over three decades. A fascinating look at Calvin, sixteenth-century royalty and the Protestant Reformation, with political intrigue, charges of heresy and assassination.

The work features primary sources to document this captivating saga. An excellent manuscript, historically accurate, well informed and based on written evidence. A valuable picture of Calvin, it views him almost exclusively in his pastoral role rather than as a theoretician. Recommended.
