The Huxtables series doesn't suck you in quite the way the Bedwyn family did. Then Comes Seduction is the story of youngest sister, Katherine, who is easily lured into a very compromising situation with Jasper Finley, a rake who only woos her on a bet. She seems gullible and immature (which she would be at age 20) but her exceptionally EASY fall didn't earn any respect or interest from this reader. Jasper was so obvious in his efforts to debauch her, she'd been duly warned prevously about his character, it seemed strange she would so very very easily fall into his clutches.
Jump ahead three years later and when they finally meet again Jasper comes up with another bet, so stupid it makes no sense and it's difficult to reconcile the bet with his character. The resolution to his behavior was fairly satisfying but not quite worth the journey for the reader.
Balogh has a VERY similar story in a book called the Christmas Promise. Substitute a few character names and a summer festival for Christmas and its nearly the same book.
Both books were pleasurable to read, but Then Comes Seduction seemed to drag and was easy to put down. One of my least favorite Balogh books.
