Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe is another example of Heather Webber's talent of writing novels with magical realism elements that feel completely believable. This is important for readers like me who enjoy realism far more than fantasy.

I was completely captivated with the small town of Wicklow, Alabama and the colorful cast of characters in this novel, some who have lived here many years, others who stayed when they intended to simply pass through, and others who recently arrived for various reasons.

This novel is all about secrets, family, grudges, reconciliation, returning home, spreading your wings, and mysterious blackbirds. The ending was a little too 'neat' but given everything these characters already experienced, I was glad to see many have a 'happily ever after.' This is a perfect summer read!
