This book was full of political intrigue without any real substance. The only interesting part when something happens is the delivery of twins (first 3 chapters) after that it is blah bla blah. The washed out character of the doctor was mildly tolerable. His wife was so flat a character I can't even recall her name (and I just finished the book). Sir Ish the shadow hunter had an interesting character but most of it was buried in playing dead or recovering from assassinations in prison. This story is has no twist and no end that I could see. It is like Henry 8 court (minus the excitement, the romance or anything mildly entertaining). There are (God Help us) 2 sequels to this tragedy called writing. If you want to read 400 pages about badly presented political intrigue, then this is book for you. If you like your books with magic, intrigue and SUBSTANCE get the Tairen soul series.
