Liz Sutton had never planned on going back to her home town of Fool's Gold, California. But after receiving an email from her nieces saying they had been left on their own when their father was imprisoned, Liz packed up her 11-year-old son, Tyler, and drove to the small town. Hoping to get in and out of town quickly, Liz runs into her former boyfriend, Ethan Hendrix. Ethan is glad to see her until he learns that Tyler is the son she never told him about. Now he wants Tyler in his life and blames Liz for all of the time he lost with his son.

I was looking forward to reading this book after the character of Ethan was introduced in the previous book in the series. Well, I had a real hard time with this story. Ethan is a complete jerk who spent more than half the book going on and on about the fact that Liz never told him about his son. There were reasons she never told him, but that doesn't stop him from blaming her. And the people in the small town were ridiculous. She was approached by strangers who told her what they thought of her actions several times in the book. Okay, that might happen once but not over and over again. The saving factor with this book is the character of Liz and the fact that Susan Mallery's style of writing is so easy to read. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
