The older I get and the more I read, the more easily bored I am by some murder mysteries. I suspect one of the problems is that I like cozies. I don't want to "see" a lot of blood and gore. I don't want to experience a lot of stress. I want to be interested and curious, not frightened.
I've come to realize mysteries need to have several facets. Plot is only one. This series has 2 things in its favor: a very interesting and colorful ambiance, based in Cambridge, MA and much discussion about the beliefs, actions, and concerns of Quakers.
I really enjoyed reading it and have just ordered the other 3 books in the series.
It's been a long time since the author wrote for this series. Something may have happened in her personal life OR she may just have not felt she had anything more to offer along these lines. I can only wish ALL authors felt a compulsion to quit while they were ahead and the series was still good.
