Nichelle is working at her new job along with Bob & Parker. Feeling she has lost her headline grabbing she's working on a boring story about the opiate crisis. Riding along with a new police officer (Brooks) that she was referred to by Andy & Landers, they stumble across a murder in a flea bag motel. The victim turns out to be a former professor connected to politics, college, & environmental law. He had also been holed up with the missing Katie DeLuca. Still reeling from Kyle's lies that put Joey into witsec, Nicey has been on her own flying blind trying to stay out of trouble and solve the murder. Connected pieces that aren't what they seem, Joey's past connections with the mob family, Kyle's distance, and Landers feeding her information, she isn't sure she's on the right track. Connecting dots that may point to a dirty cop, piecing together seemingly unrelated information, & not knowing who to trust has Nicey on a collision course with exposing the murderer that may prove too close to home.
