According to a number of reviews, the movie made from this book may be the worst sci-fi film ever made. I saw it once and definitely do not need to see it again. But then I was never a fan of John Travolta, even when he didn't play an evil alien.
There are questions as to whether Hubbard actually wrote this book, or it was ghost authored. However, it doesn't make a difference to me who really wrote the book, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. A great tale of an Earth laid waste by alien despoilers and the human boy who decided to avenge those who died defending his world.
This book captured me with its very first sentence: "Man," said Terl, "is an endangered species."
