Not sure why I got this book, but have read that R. Pilcher was a popular romance writer. This book is, in my opinion, more a regular novel about a family. While there are various romances of various characters, they are not the entire focus of the book. The older daughter is left in England to finish her education at a private girls' school while her mother and sister go East to live with her father. The main character is unofficially 'adopted' by the family of one of her classmates. Timeframe is from late 1930's until just after WWII. Although long, I enjoyed the story, and it ended well.
