Disappointing to the extent that my patience being tested beyond its limits I stopped a third of the way through and swore off the rest of the series.
Not earthy, just coarse.
Not immersive, just over researched in historical building design.
Not accurate, just lots and lots of far too modern phrases and attitudes.Even some coarse phrases they seem to have invented for this book, ones I have never encountered in any historical writing, and which were especially offensive.
Not honest, but a stereotypical attack on religion. Well, Christianity, really.
Not mysterious, though they tried. They just kept hitting me over the head to remind me of facts that would prove oh so important later.
Not poetic, just...atonal.
I can't even say it's the first book and so it's bound to have some rough edges. This was Book Three.
I really, really, really, really miss Ellis Peters.
