"The Devil's Highway" really took me by surprise. I will admit that the first part of this book was extremely difficult for me to read because Luis Alberto Urrea's writing was very fragmented and it was unclear where the story was going. It wasn't until I made it past this portion of the book that it became exceedingly more interesting and began to tell the story of those that crossed the Devil's Highway - I was hooked and wanted to keep reading.
An insightful and thought provoking book, with a very in-depth account of one particular journey across the southern border of the United States. Definitely would recommend this read to anyone interested in U.S./Mexico border issues.
