Very engaging book that I read within 24 hours. A different story about the circus "world" in the 1930'sand 1940's. The circus was one of the few traveling entertainment venues of that time and most towns looked forward to the visit, however there were other towns that would run them out if they felt they were cheated on the previous visit. Whole families would belong to the circus as well as transients hired to do the grunt work. The main character falls somewhere between the "family" member and the "transient" help and the reader learns of the circus world along with the main character. The circus often operated outside of the law and transients that did the grunt work had little value to the owner/s. The story is also a love story however that doesn't really start to happen until the end of the book. Highly recommend.
