After her parents deaths, the job of maintaining the ranch and her siblings falls to Robin Matthews. She takes her job seriously, refusing to sell the ranch, no matter how much money or pressure Vance Sutherland puts on her. Instead, she disguises herself as a man and accepts a strangers help in hunting down a gang of rustlers.

When Robin is wounded Nathaniel Hollister discovers shes a woman. Nate binds her wounds and takes her back to the ranch, staying on until she is recovered. Nathaniel does not tell Robin he is a retired U.S. Marshall whos had enough of killing. He wants to ride through the country he has been defending and take in its majesty, without any encumbrances.

As time goes on, Robin and Nathaniel find an attraction to each other that neither can deny, but do everything in their power not to admit. Nathaniel needs absolution from the guilt of his past, something only Robin can help him find.
