2nd book I read by this author and I liked it a lot more than the first. It had a great mystery element to the story which I wasn't expecting and I had fun figuring out the parts before it told you who did it/what happened, etc. Worried for a bit when it appeared family members might have some romance going on but it was a long time ago and I'm sure that kind of thing happened but so relieved when things worked themselves out. I liked the main character and this was a fast read, held my attention very well. I liked that the effect of a decision was in this story too (much like the first book I read by this author) showing how something you do long ago can change your life later. Also liked the theme of things aren't always as they seem and you shouldn't judge someone too quickly. Loved learning about governess'-so much more lonely a position than I would have thought and about how adoption didn't exist so how people got around that or how many children just stayed orphans their whole life :(
