This book is thoughtfully done. The subject matter easily lends itself to cheesy prose and obnoxious appeals to emotions (not that it isn't an emotional book....) Forman manages the subject matter expertly, making an almost supernatural plot line graspable. Mia is a realistic character, with an unimaginable choice. Yet I ended up empathetic with her and completely unable to make the choice for her in my mind. It is a book that left me contemplating: if I were to lose what she lost, would I stay?
