One of my all-time favorite books. I'm a 37-year-old adult and I still re-read this from time to time.

Harriet is an only child who fancies herself a spy. She has regular "clients" that she spies on, jotting observations down in her notebook, one of many that she has kept since she was younger. Her nanny, Ole Golly, encourages her writing, but when one of her notebooks falls into the wrong hands, she alienates her friends and things in her life go horribly wrong.

The drawings by the author are creepy, yet remarkably accurate. I always feel bad for Harriet when she gets caught, but the story has a bittersweet ending that is very satisfying.
