When a man dies at his own birthday party, poisoned by cyanide, Lt. Eve Dallas is tossed into a man-hunt for a killer she has put away once before - a woman who does not hesitate to kill men for money or pleasure. Soon, Eve discovers that the killer is playing games with her - and that Roarke is a target. Complicating matters even more is the sudden appearance of Peabody's parents - and Eve has to deal with more revelations from her own tangled past.

These books just keep getting better as more and more, Eve is forced to deal with her past and struggles with the relationships she is building with the people in her life. I love how it isn't always improvement - sometimes she takes backward steps and has to be pulled out of old habits - it makes her seem more real.
