From Library Journal
Considered by many analysts to be baseball's premier catcher during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Carter was recognized as much for his exuberant style as for his handling of pitchers. His commentary centers on his personal and professional relationships, spanning his glory days with the Montreal Expos and New York Mets to a less-than-satisfactory stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers near the end of his career. He credits his strong religious convictions for his success in overcoming a series of crises, including the death of his mother at an early age, a matter he addressed in his earlier work, A Dream Season ( LJ 5/1/87). Often criticized for being a publicity hound, he is not hesitant to bare his feelings on issues that directly affect him. For popular collections.
