An exciting and original romance set in the American West at the onset of the American Indian wars. Luke and Rose's story was jammed with adventure and rich historical detail, with special attention to military behavior, Cheyenne tribal customs, and their elite warriors. Not only did Luke and Rose endure trials together, they both brought their own tormented pasts, which lent a very engrossing back story. Toward the end, the adventures became almost too much, however, and the sudden inclusion of most if not all previously connected characters was confusing for me since I had not read the prior books in this series. The Cheyenne language was frequently highlighted and was somewhat difficult to follow. Just be aware there is a glossary of Cheyenne vocabulary placed on the very last pages of the book so that you can follow along. I didn't find it until after I finished the story. Despite my disappointment over that, it didn't lessen my overall enjoyment of this thrilling romance. Definitely four stars!
