The second book in this (following Poison Study) series was a fast, action packed read! I finished the whole book in about a day... Every time I put it down, I picked it right back up, as I couldn't wait to get to the end. Because I liked the first one so much, I ended up buying this one, as well as the 3rd one!
Despite liking the book I have to mention that there were a few negatives:
One, the heroine seems to have gotten a tad bit arrogant... I'm assuming that;s due to her age (and new circumstances) but a few times, it definitely made me want to smack her... or at least shake her a tad violently. :P
Also from a romance fan, the fact that there's no real romance until about halfway through the book (when the heroine's hero comes into the story) grates on my nerves. However, the fantasy aspect is just so so good and so much keep happening, that I didn't mind nearly as much as I thought I would... (though more romance would definitely have been appreciated)
Lastly, all the recaps of what previously happened in the first book are annoying. It may be a nice reminder if the time b/w reading the first and second books in the series was a few months, but as I just finished the Poison Study last week, It tended to be piss me off. Plus, and now I'm just nitpicking, the little blurb about the next book coming right after the final sentence of the book.... well that annoyed me too.. It's hard to enjoy the ending of a really good book with an advertisement being the last thing you read!
Over all though, a good read for young adults and adults alike (which coming from me is surprising, as I don't' usually go for YA books) though I hope after she finishes this series, Ms Snyder decides to move into adult fantasy fiction (or at least away from the first person perspective) as she has quite a bit of potential and I can't wait to read more from her!
