After parking the borrowed Buick in a space marked VISITOR, I pulled down the visor mirror and smoothed a couple of strands of red hair into place.

This is the first book in the Witch City Mystery series. Lee Barrett has come home to Salem following the death of her husband. She is interviewing for a reporter job with WICH-TV. Before the interview, she learns that the job has gone to someone else. As she is leaving the station, Lee discovers the body of the woman that hosts the midnight movie and psychic line. Lee becomes a suspect when the station immediately offers her the job as the replacement.

Interesting debut of a series. Lee is a very likeable character. She has experience as a weather announcer and has worked with a home shopping network. Her husband was a NASCAR driver that was killed in an accident in which Lee was driving.

Using Salem as a backdrop during Halloween is excellent. It allows all sorts of creepy elements to shine through the story. We discover secrets about Ariel, the former show host and about Lee as well. Lee's aunt is a great addition to the storyline. I love O'Ryan, the big orange cat that once belonged to Ariel. The staff from the station are diverse. A HUGE secret involving siblings that work there is the true center point of the plot. I must admit that I figured out what was going on quite a bit before it was revealed. It did not distract from the story.

I look forward to reading the next book.
