Lucy is a pianist in training who moves from her Midwestern town to Chicago. There she falls in love with an aging vocalist of some repute. He drowns in Europe; she returns to her home. In the background, she has spurned a local guy: a banker no less. Returning is not a good idea for Lucy; you cant go home again. This is another simple plot that characterizes Cathers writing. Enjoyable and easy reading.
